Dual State Preview

The Oklahoma Dual State Tournament kicks off tomorrow at the Stride Bank Center in Enid.  There is quite a bit to cover, so I will spare you from my ramblings, and simply give my predictions.  I will also highlight potentially key matchups in each dual.

4A QUARTERFINALS

Tuttle 69  Mannford 0

106 Braden Potts vs Barrett Hilton

4A SEMIS

Tuttle 64  Blanchard 9

152 Brady Dearmond vs Wyatt Berry

Gage Shetley vs Dillon Berry

Harley Andrews vs Jacob Maston

Colin Naney vs Zack Bosse

Cushing 46  Wagoner 18

113 Brandon Anderson vs Braven Bowman

120 Luke Ahrberg vs Gage Eaton

132 Hayden Lemmons vs Braden Drake

195 William Simpson vs Chochee Watson

285 Beau Stokes vs Jayden Marshall

4A FINALS

Tuttle 50  Cushing 18

106 Braden Potts vs Johnny Leverich

113 Ashton Grounds vs Brandon Anderson

132 Dalton Burdick vs Hayden Lemmons

170 Parrish Terry vs Gage Hockett

Tuttle managed to run through the 4A dual state tournament without losing a single match last season.  Although I don’t think they are going to pull that off again, I don’t see anyone stopping them from winning their 11th consecutive title.

6A Quarterfinals

Broken Arrow 40  Edmond Memorial 19

113 Parker Witcraft vs Cruz Aguilar

120 Bryce Cockrell vs Garrett Johnson

138 Jared Hill vs Bam West

This dual may not end up being all that close, but it definitely has plenty of big time matchups.

Edmond North 50 vs Tulsa Union 13

195 Christian Cantu vs Jake Rogers

285 Jordan Iwuchukwu vs Micah Walker

Choctaw 48 Sand Springs 12

113 Speedy Walden  vs Mitchell Smith

126 Caleb Williams vs Seth Jones

Mustang 40  Stillwater 30

106 Cael Hughes vs Shelton Chastain

138 Carter Young vs Keegan Luton

182 Brett Black vs Tate Picklo

This dual has a chance to be much closer than people are expecting.

6A SEMIS

Broken Arrow 47  Edmond North 14

120 Bryce Cockrell vs Nate Becker

152 William Martin vs Jaxon Randall

195 Emanuel Skillings vs Christian Cantu

285 Marlon Welty vs Jordan Iwuchukwu

Mustang 36  Choctaw 33

106 Shelton Chastain vs Caden Holman

170 Joseph Sylvester vs Zeke Coleman

182 Tate Picklo vs Dylan Ward

195 Jack Kitchingham vs Corey Monroe

285 Christian Rowland vs Marquonn Journey

This one could go either way.  The final match at 106 will undoubtedly decide it all.

6A FINALS

Broken Arrow 33  Mustang 30

106 Christian Forbes vs Shelton Chastain

120 Bryce Cockrell vs Tucker Owens

138 Jared Hill vs Keegan Luton

170 Bryce Mattioda vs Joseph Sylvester

195 Emmanuel Skillings vs Jack Kitchingham

285 Marlon Welty vs Christian Rowland

These two teams met in early January, with Broken Arrow winning 40-20.  They also met in the semis last year in what was arguably the best dual of the tournament (and most controversial).  My guess is that if they meet in the finals it will be more like the semifinal matchup from last year.  I don’t see Broken Arrow winning by 20 again.  There are plenty of matchups that could determine the outcome here, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that whoever wins the heavyweight match will win the dual.

3A QUARTERFINALS

Comanche 41  Bridge Creek 33

152 Jordan Duncan vs Kolby Depron

170 Cade Cook vs Dominick Baez

This match feels more like a semifinals or finals match.

Sperry 39  Vinita 30

113 Chase Cormican vs Hunter Tadych

132 Eli Benham vs Rashaud Morgan

Salina 33  Perry 30

120 Hunter Fitzpatrick vs Gabe Valencia

126 Gavin Montgomery vs Ryan Smith

145 Brier Smith vs Dylan Avery

It’s not easy picking against a team going for a 12th consecutive title, but the streak has to end eventually right?

Marlow 48  Blackwell 18

106 Gehrig Furr vs Aiden Odell

120 Case Rich vs Caleb Odell

182 Kyle Wilson vs Mikey Riley

3A SEMIS

Comanche 45  Sperry 27

145 Kooper Doucet vs Cooper Park

152 Jordan Duncan vs Stormy Weathers

170 Cade Cook vs Bryce Carter

220 Konner Doucet vs Levi Juby

The matchup at 170 alone makes this dual worth watching.  Carter beat Cook in the state finals last year 6-4.  Should be fun.

Marlow 46  Salina 21

106 Gehrig Furr vs Gage Stock

113 Tyler Lawson vs Corbin McCarty

120 Case Rich vs Hunter Fitzpatrick

145 Bryson Hughes vs Brier Smith

3A FINALS

Comanche 34  Marlow 26

138 Trevor Cusumano vs Anthony Orum

145 Kooper Doucet vs Bryson Hughes

152 Jordan Duncan vs Dason Davis

195 Gage Miller vs Carson Moore

Marlow beat Comanche last year 33-31 in the semifinals in what was a really exciting dual.  This dual should be just as exciting.  It’s always fun when two lifelong rivals meet in the finals!

5A Quarterfinals

Collinsville 56  Altus 9

132 Caleb Tanner vs Jose Centeno

Piedmont 34  Glenpool 33

120 Alan Flores vs Jacoby Clarke

132 Levi Buckridge vs Tyson Stevens

152 Tabor McClure vs Mason Watts

170 Bryce DiGiacento vs Garrett Wells

Pryor 30  Duncan 24

138 Kolby Encinas vs Blayton Montgomery

160 Ethan Chavez vs Tyson Walker

Skiatook 51  El Reno 12

106 Brody Gee vs Will Heger

160 Cougar Anderson vs Kord Lafoe

170 Richie Lee vs Jacob Law

5A SEMIS

Collinsville 45  Piedmont 33

126 Jordan Williams vs Levi Buckridge

145 Kolten Allphin vs Tabor McClure

152 Wyatt Hartley vs Landis Scoon

Skiatook 52  Pryor 9

138 Josh Taylor vs Kolby Encinas

152 Tony Johnson vs Michael Richardson

160 Cougar Anderson vs Ethan Chavez

5A FINALS

Collinsville 37  Skiatook 36

106 Clay Gates vs Brody Gee

113 Cameron Steed vs Josey Jernegan

138 Caleb Tanner (if Collinsville bumps lineup) vs Josh Taylor

152 Kolten Allphin vs Tony Johnson

285 Zach Morris (if Collinsville bumps lineup) vs Nate Easky

Collinsville won the regular season matchup 35-26, with the dual coming down to the last match, and I expect this one to be no different.  We couldn’t have picked a better starting weight for this dual, because I think 285, 106, & 113 will be the most important weights.  This one could be an all-timer!
